Erratic Drivers

Why we don't want erratic, irritated drivers behind us.

We hear a lot of people saying, there was nothing I could do. If that's what you believe then you're right. When you close your mind of thinking you eliminate options and possibilities. As motorcyclist we don't want to not be at fault, we want to avoid an accident at all costs. Nobody wants to be right but also end up in the hospital or worse.

I constantly see this. There's a slow or erratic driver in front of a motorcyclist and the motorcyclist passes them only to get in front of them. Why would you as a motorcyclist want an erratic driver behind you? If you're going to pass one of these drivers make sure they don't end up behind you. I recently heard of a story where a motorcyclist did just this, pass an erratic driver only for the erratic driver to come from behind and strike them. Drivers can be impaired. have a medical condition or simply not paying attention. Either way it's not good for you.

If you do have to pass one of these motorist try to get as far away from them as possible. If possible put some vehicles in between you and the motorist just in case. Also constantly check your mirrors. If you do see the vehicle behind you again you can either pull over, speed up within the speed limit to get away from them or exit the road. A few minutes lost on your trip could be well worth it.
