In 2023, two weeks before his 98th birthday, Leslie Harris became the world's oldest motorcycle racer. Leslie took part in the Pukeohe 43rd Classic Motorcycle Festival in Auckland New Zealand. New Zealand was also the home of another well-known racer, Burt Munroe.

During the 2023 event, Leslie rode his historic BSA Bantam 175cc and achieved a fourth-place finish. He wasn't participating alone this year; his son, Rod, secured eighth place, while his granddaughter, Olivia, finished in 21st place.

Discussing the event, his son Rod mentioned: “Consistent lap times are essential in all motorsports, as they allow race teams to better manage fuel and vehicle wear. Mastering this skill takes many years without the aid of modern timing machines.”
He also shared that Les has no plans to retire soon and is determined to extract more performance from the small two-stroke machine.

“For Les, it was crucial to ride the track and compete for a trophy he had previously won. His passion lies in racing his classic BSA Bantam motorbikes at any event he can enter. He is busy modifying his bike to prepare for the next event and to accommodate his ageing and shrinking frame. As Les puts it: ‘I’m not finished yet, I don’t need to leave.’”
At 100 years old, Leslie is still actively racing and competing, demonstrating an incredible passion for the sport that has defined much of his life. His dedication to maintaining his physical fitness and mental sharpness is truly inspiring, as he continues to participate in races that challenge not only his stamina but also his competitive spirit. Leslie's commitment to racing at such an advanced age showcases not only his love for the sport but also the remarkable resilience of the human body and spirit. May he have many more years to come, filled with thrilling races, new experiences, and the joy of competing alongside fellow enthusiasts who share his fervor for racing. His journey serves as a testament to the idea that age is merely a number and that with determination and passion, one can continue to pursue their dreams and passions well into their later years.
