Have you looked down and your gear indicator said you were in one gear, but you were in a different one? Maybe you thought you were in neutral because the light was on, but you released the clutch to find out you weren't. Those are faulty lights and switches. Don't rely on them. They are cheap manufactured items produced in bulk probably in some sweat shop in the third world.
