Have you looked down and your gear indicator said you were in one gear, but you were in a different one? Maybe you thought you were in neutral because the light was on, but you released the clutch to find out you weren't. Those are faulty lights and switches. Don't rely on them. They are cheap manufactured items produced in bulk probably in some sweat shop in the third world.

Lights and switches

Kick stand safety switches and neutral light switches are great reminders to help you avoid trouble. If you ever saw a motorcycle accident caused by a kickstand being down, you would know exactly what I mean. These items are taken for granted because they work 99% of the time but if they don't, watch out. I've seen people go to start their bike because the neutral light was on, but the bike wasn't in neutral. Imagine the shock when you hit the start button and your bike takes off on you. Always start your bike with the clutch disengaged.

Or you take off on your bike, because you know your bike would not go with the kickstand down, and then you go to make that left turn. You will turn left and when the kickstand hits the ground it will kick the bike right. Safety features are nice but don't get lazy, always check and assume they aren't working. Have fun, be safe.
